Disgrace: Andrea Mitchell sweeps falsely edited Wawa video under rug

As Twitchy reported last night, the media’s breathless Wawa-gate story was completely invented. MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell had aired a deceptively edited video in order to create the utterly false narrative. SooperMexican, “just a blogger,” caught her in the act.

What This 92 Year Old Man Did Will Never Be Forgotten. This Is Incredible.

No one knows when tragedy is going to strike. It can be sudden, totally unexpected and absolutely destroy lives. Luckily for one 5 year-old, she had a guardian angel standing nearby when things went awry at a racetrack. At Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California, things went sideways. A loose racehorse when charging into a crowd. People scrambled out of the way, but a little girl was in its path. 92 year-old John Shear had to think fast when he saw what was happening.

No one expected the horses to go wild…

But when they did, the runaway racehorse was headed right for 5 year-old Roxy Key.

The old man snatched the little girl out of harm’s way, saving her life. He was her guardian angel that day, and his amazing save is almost too perfect to believe. You have to see it for yourself:

The only thing more disturbing than this is Eric Pianka and company’s almost gleeful contemplation of seeing most or all of humanity wiped out by Ebola or some other pandemic. We’ve had enough personal contact with him to know that the distant glimmer of this sickness echoed by James Wolcott expressing his satisfaction with smug little humans being visited by mighty natural catastrophes (as he sits in his New York loft, stroking his ocicat) was a momentary stroke of unreason. But . . . human engineering in order to preserve Gaia? At The Atlantic:

The threat of global climate change has prompted us to redesign many of our technologies to be more energy-efficient. From lightweight hybrid cars to long-lasting LED’s, engineers have made well-known products smaller and less wasteful. But tinkering with our tools will only get us so far, because however smart our technologies become, the human body has its own ecological footprint, and there are more of them than ever before. So, some scholars are asking, what if we could engineer human beings to be more energy efficient? A new paper to be published in Ethics, Policy & Environment proposes a series of biomedical modifications that could help humans, themselves, consume less.

Some of the proposed modifications are simple and noninvasive. For instance, many people wish to give up meat for ecological reasons, but lack the willpower to do so on their own. The paper suggests that such individuals could take a pill that would trigger mild nausea upon the ingestion of meat, which would then lead to a lasting aversion to meat-eating. Other techniques are bound to be more controversial. For instance, the paper suggests that parents could make use of genetic engineering or hormone therapy in order to birth smaller, less resource-intensive children.

The lead author of the paper, S. Matthew Liao, is a professor of philosophy and bioethics at New York University. Liao is keen to point out that the paper is not meant to advocate for any particular human modifications, or even human engineering generally; rather, it is only meant to introduce human engineering as one possible, partial solution to climate change. He also emphasized the voluntary nature of the proposed modifications. Neither Liao or his co-authors, Anders Sandberg and Rebecca Roache of Oxford, approve of any coercive human engineering; they favor modifications borne of individual choices, not technocratic mandates. What follows is my conversation with Liao about why he thinks human engineering could be the most ethical and effective solution to global climate change.

The Senate Judiciary Committee held a confirmation hearing today for ATF director nominee Todd Jones, acting head of the ATF and U.S. Attorney for Minnesota. It goes without saying that the ATF needs to have a firm grip on crimes committed with firearms purchased illegally, and the ATF director must take prosecution seriously. But is Jones the man for the job?

During the hearing, Sen. Ted Cruz confronted Jones on his record as U.S. Attorney with regard to prosecuting gun crimes and came away less than confident in Jones’ ability to head the agency that persists under the dark cloud of Fast and Furious:

Cruz continued: “Do you think prosecuting just 44 out of over 48,000 felons and fugitives who try to illegally buy guns, do you think that’s an acceptable allocation of prosecutorial resources?”

Sen. Cruz pointed out that in 2010, the DOJ prosecuted only 44 out of 48,321 felons and fugitives who attempted to purchase guns illegally. Moreover, during the course of Cruz’s questioning, Jones was forced to admit that his office had prosecuted exactly zero such criminals.

A nightmarish scene in southeast London today. A soldier was beheaded in broad daylight by men wielding swords and knives. Two other men were hurt.

Local MP Nick Raynsford said he had been told the man attacked in the street was a soldier serving at the Royal Artillery Barracks near the attack.

Mr Raynsford said the soldier had been returning to the barracks after a day out when he was attacked.

London Ambulance Service said one man, believed to be the victim of the machete attack, had died in the incident and two others were injured, one seriously.

The BBC reported sources had told them the men were shouting “Allahu Akbar” as they carried out the attack and had filmed carrying it out.

One witness, called James, told LBC radio: “We saw clearly two knives, meat cleavers, they were big kitchen knives like you would use in a butcher’s, they were hacking at this poor guy, we thought they were trying to remove organs from him.”

Five-year-old Romanian boy Giuliano Stroe can do something incredibly impressive. Not only that, but it’s something you or I probably can’t do (and may never be able to do).

For some of us, just performing a basic push-up is a challenge all by itself, but Giuliano can do 90 degree push-ups. Not only are they one of the hardest body weight exercises a person could do, but he somehow can do them for a minute and a half, and with a smile on his face the whole time!

I’m just going to assume he is Superman’s little brother.

These Dancers Go Vertical For Oakland"s Art Festival

Taking dance to the next level is something the Bandaloop dance company takes literally. The company specializes in “vertical dance,” where dancers are suspended via cables so that they can dance on the walls of buildings, suspended over their audience. So besides the intricate choreography that goes into a traditional performance, the Bandaloop dancers also appear to float weightlessly in the air. From the ground, it looks as though they are on a horizontal surface, and the Matrix-style leaps and flips seem to defy gravity.

Two Bandaloop dancers, Amelia Rudolph and Roel Seeber, recently performed “Waltz on the Wall” on the side of City Hall in Oakland, CA, for the city’s annual Art + Soul festival. Rudolph captured the dance on a GoPro, lending a thrilling first-person perspective to the performance–they’re really high up!

Earlier this week during a Colorado legislative hearing, rape survivor Amanda Collins told lawmakers she was sexually assaulted at gunpoint in a so-called campus “safe zone.” The man who attacked her is now on death row for killing a woman.

Revoltingly, Colorado state senator Evie Hudak told Collins the statistics were “not on your side.” “Chances are that if you would have had a gun, then he would have been able to get that from you and possibly use it against you,” she lectured.

Rolling over Lincoln, Nebraska this past July 7, these “undulatus asperatus”, i.e., dark and stormy clouds, travel across the sky in ominous waves, but generally dissipate without an a storm forming.
